The idea behind Wilson Palace came from the need to connect the building with Bratislavas history. Closely after the First World War, Bratislava was named Wilsons city to honor the American President Woodrow Wilson, who supported Slovaks and Czechs in their fight for freedom and a democratic state.

At the end of 19th and beginning 20th century, Štefániková street was a luxurious boulevard of the representative class with palaces of wealthy townspeople and aristocracy.of these elements are encompassed within Wilson Palace.
